Police have urged parents and schools to educate their children about stranger danger. This urgent request follows a recent attempted kidnapping outside a Wentworth primary school.
Wentworth SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbuso Gumede said it was reported that a white Hilux bakkie was outside Assegai Primary School with two occupants who were heard calling out to a schoolchild.
The child noticed the driver had a syringe in his hand and ran away.
“The vehicle mentioned is a white Toyota Hilux bakkie with tinted windows and no canopy. The occupants were two foreigners,” said Cpt Gumede.
Parents are urged to talk to their children about stranger danger and kidnapping.
“The police will fulfill the role of visiting the schools, especially primary schools to educate the children about talking to strangers or accepting any gifts from strangers,” added Capt Gumede.
The occupants are suspected to be child kidnappers or human trafficking syndicates.
The police are following up on the information and urges anyone who spotted the vehicle in the area to contact Wentworth SAPS on 031-4516240/4516241/4516242 or Crime Stop on 086-0010111.
