WTF Friday: How were household objects invented?

We might not appreciate the normal household objects like the microwave or the bread tin which means we don’t know the history behind it and how it was invented.

Tea bags:

Our grannies love it and sometimes we drink it but where exactly did it come from? www.scooppick.com did some digging and found out that in 1908 a man named Thomas Sullivan came up with the idea of sending his customers dried tea leaves packed in small silk bags. He did not intend for them to dip it in the water but they did. And over time, the silk bags transgressed into paper bags and into the tea bags that we love and know.

Microwave:

This nifty invention was interestingly invented by accident.  An engineer named Percy Spencer was testing a military-grademagnetron and suddenly realised his snack had melted according to popularmechanics.com. The article read on: “Understandably curious just what the heck had happened, Spencer ran another test with the magnetron. This time he put an egg underneath the tube. Moments later, it exploded, covering his face in egg. “I always thought that this was the origin of the expression ‘egg in your face’,” Rod Spencer laughed. The following day, Percy Spencer brought in corn kernels, popped them with his new invention, and shared some popcorn with the entire office.”
