Montclair police plea for residents to secure homes

SEVERAL housebreaking and thefts reported last week, leading to Montclair SAPS urging residents to be extra vigilant in the wake of this crime spree.

On Wednesday, 21 February a men returned to his home to find his sliding doors had been removed from the rails.
It was evident that a break-in had occurred, and on further inspection, he noticed that his grass cutter machine was missing.

The next day, a man in Wood Road was approached by two men who asked for directions. As he was unable to help them, they returned to their vehicle. “The man noticed a jack hammer belonging to his employer lying near their vehicle and he witnessed the men grab it and put it in their vehicle,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam.

He attempted to chase after them on foot towards their vehicle before they could drive off. Failing to catch them, he informed his supervisor of the theft.

On Saturday, 24 February a Yellowwood Park home owner in Barbet Avenue was woken up in the early hours of the morning by his fiance. She felt a cold wind coming from a window he had locked the night before and when he inspected it, he found it had been forced open. “They soon found a laptop and a cellphone had disappeared,” added Capt Vijiam.
