Durban motorist robbed of R100,000 by armed hijackers

Motorists were left shaken up after being hijacked on Roland Chapman Drive and Roland Road.

A MAN driving with R100,000 under his seat was threatened, hijacked and kidnapped by two armed men on Thursday, 22 February.
The driver who had stopped at the Blamey and South Coast roads robot in Clairwood at about 2.40pm, was approached by gunmen who threatened him.
They got into his vehicle and forced him to take the N2 southbound. They removed the battery from his cellphone, removed his jewellery and R100,000 in cash which was hidden under the seat.

“He was dropped off in Winklespruit and the men drove off with his vehicle towards the R103,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam.
Left unharmed, the man managed to get a lift to a mall, where he bought a battery for his phone and contacted his wife. No shots were fired and the car was later found in Isipingo.
On the same day, another motorist who was stationary at the South Coast and Kenyon Howden Road robots was accosted by four men. One of them pointed a firearm at him.
They forced the driver out the car and all four men got in and drove off towards the South Coast, leaving the man at the roadside.
