Night-time burglars prowl around Montclair

MONTCLAIR police urged residents in their jurisdiction to increase their home security measures, following a spate of burglaries last week.

The burglars’ preferred time to strike seems to be overnight, as three incidents were reported to have taken place overnight on Tuesday, 6 February and Wednesday, 7 February.

Sometime between 10pm on Tuesday, 6 February and the next morning, a Ronald Road home was burgled.

The home owner had secured all the doors and left one window slightly ajar before he went to sleep. Burglars used this window to gain entry, and when the home owner awoke the next morning, he found three cell phones missing, along with a laptop, tablet, cell phone and R1,000 in cash.

On the same night, a Fiskaal Place, Woodhaven home was burgled. The occupants awoke to find their double-storey home’s kitchen stable door had been forced open. They discovered a Samsung laptop, Iphone 6, handbag containing cash, bankcards and office keys had been stolen.

On the night of Tuesday, 6 February an Ibis Road, Woodhaven resident secured the doors and windows before leaving with friends at about 10pm. When he returned at about 11pm, he saw the door lock on his cabin was broken. Among the items stolen were a gas cylinder, gas cooker, kettle, cell phone charger, pot and slippers.
