Montclair hijack victim hears gunmen plan his murder

FORCED into the boot of his own car, a hijack victim overheard how three armed men who attacked him were planning his murder on Saturday, 6 January.

Fearing for his life, he managed to escape and fled amid a hail of bullets.

While at a traffic circle on Blamey Road, Montclair the driver was blocked by a silver Kia Picanto at about midnight. Three men emerged from the Kia and pointed firearms at him. “He had a licensed firearm holstered to his hip. The armed men took that along with his wallet and cellphone before moving him to the backseat,” said Montclair SAPS communications officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam.

The men drove around for a while and stopped in a remote area, where they pulled him out of the car. They assaulted him with the butt of the firearm and forced him into the boot before they drove around again. “While lying in the boot, he could hear them talk about killing him,” added Capt Vijiam.

Knowing he would not survive if he just laid there, he forced the boot open and jumped out of the moving vehicle. The criminals stopped the car and fired shots at him as he ran away. He ran between houses until he managed to get help from the community. The hijack victim escaped with only a slight injury to his head.
The armed men jumped back into the stolen vehicle and drove off.
