Wentworth nightclubs shut down

TWO night clubs were shut down in Wentworth during an enforcement blitz by the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) office.

The clubs – one on Bluff Road and the other on Tara Road – were shuttered during an operation in conjunction with law enforcement.

“The purpose of the operation was to create a safe and drug-free city and provide a platform for inter-governmental departments to educate, inspect and enforce various legislation applicable to nightlife establishments,” read a press release from the municipality.

“We received complaints from community leaders who are concerned about the safety of young people in Wentworth and we responded by organising a night raid. We conduct these enforcement operations weekly,” said SDB ABM municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu.

He added that the SDB ABM has formed a strong partnership with the Southern Area Business Forum which assists the city to interact with business in the area.

“We are pleased to work with the SDB ABM as they bring all crucial and relevant role players together during these operations,” said KZN Liquor Authority inspector, Penelope Cele.
