School’s out for 2016 matrics

KZN MEC for education, Mthandeni Dlungwana said the department is ready for the start of the marking of the grade 12 national senior certificate answer scripts.

Marking will commence on 5 December and end on 15 December, while the capturing of marks and marking centres will officially close on Saturday, 18 December. All 27 marking centres will open on 1 December with trucks delivering the answer scripts and question papers. Some 66 chief markers, 221 deputy chief markers and 1,580 senior markers and 9,719 markers will be waiting to start. Memorandum discussion and training of markers as well as sample marking will start on 1 December

Marking guidelines for use in the marking of the question papers will be discussed and standardised. The department, together with examiners and chief markers and the Umalusi moderators, will interrogate the marking guidelines to ensure they accurately reflect the responses demanded of all questions.

The department will monitor the process and will deploy moderators to marking centres to ensure that quality marking is implemented. The Department of Education is confident that the marking of the 2016 NSC examination will be successfully administered.

In the last week of December, a national standardisation process will take place where marks for various subjects are standardised and approved by UMALUSI. Once the information is checked and verified, UMALUSI will approve the release of the results. Schools will collect the results from district offices on the morning of 5 January 2017.
