The question as to when your clothes need washing seems to be open to everyone’s interpretation and can be rather personal at times.
Here is a summary, or general guideline you may call it, as to when your different items need to be tossed in the washer and when they can go for another round of wearing. This also keeps the quality of the clothing as best as can be.
T-shirts: after every wear.
Socks: after every wear.
Underwear: after every wear.
Tights: after every wear.
Bathing suits: after every wear.
Work out clothes (if you sweat): after every wear.
White and silks: after every wear.
Blouses: After 1-2 wears.
Dress shirts: 1-2 wears with an undershirt, 1 without.
Bras: Hand wash after 2-3 wears.
Dresses: 1-3 wears, after every wear if the dress is formal.
Shorts: 2-3 wears.
Pajamas: After 3-4 wears.
Suits: 3-4 wears for wool, 4-5 wears for synthetic.
Skirts: 5-7 wears.
Sweatshirts: 6-7 wears.
Pants: After a few wears.
Jeans: When they smell.
Sweaters: 2-3 wears for cotton, up to five wears for wool.
Scarves, hats and gloves: 3-5 times a season, hand wash knits, dry clean leather.
Shoes: When they get dirty or smell, condition as needed.
Coats: Twice a season for parkas, vests and wool coats, once a season for leathers and suedes.
