Weekend hikers to venture out into scenic settings

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club will enjoy stunning views on its outing to Mzinyathi Falls in Inanda on Saturday, 22 July.

Meet at 1.15pm at Durban Green Corridor’s eNanda Adventure Park on Inanda Dam.

Directions: Take Inanda Road towards Waterfall, turn left at the traffic lights into Ngwele Road M259, drop all the way down into the valley until you reach a four-way tar crossing and turn right into Wushwini Road towards the dam wall. Proceed over the bridge below the dam wall, onto the dirt road and on to the site centre, 4km along the dirt road on the left. GPS: 29° 41.500?S 30° 53.353?E or -29.691667, 30.889217.

This is a lovely walk with stunning views over the dam up to uMzinyathi Falls, which plunges 100m down a beautiful sandstone amphitheatre into the forested gorge. Members pay R30 and non-members pay R50. This hike of about 6km is graded three, strenuous.

On Sunday, 23 July hikers will venture out into Kloof’s Everton Circuit. Call hike leader Chris Dobson on 082-461-1954.

Hikers will head upstream from Krantzkloof Nature Reserve into the Everton Conservancy, the oldest urban conservancy in SA, taking both seldom used and new routes to various waterfalls. The area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and rich biodiversity. Meet at 8am at the KKNR main picnic and parking area at 152 Kloof Falls Road. Entrance fee is R30.

This 18km hike is graded three.
