50kg of dagga seized from home

POLICE recovered 50kg of dagga in a raid on a home in Umbilo on Tuesday, 15 July.

About 3.45pm members of the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team acted on a tip-off about dagga being sold at a house in Brisbane Road, Umbilo. In the garage at the house, police found about 50kg of dagga in plastic buckets and bins, with a street value of more than R50,000.

Three people aged between 21 and 49 were arrested for dealing in dagga. They appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 16 July. One of the accused, 31-year-old Thandiwe Pamela Ngcemu confessed the dagga was hers and the other two were released by the court.

Ngcemu was granted R2,000 bail and the case was postponed to Friday, 15 August.

“This is a clear indication that the SAP members are working hard to bring drug dealers to book. Let us all stand together against drug abuse and we must not be intimidated by those who perform such acts,” said KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
